Lone Oak came to life during one of the most stressful economic times in recent history.
When the Great Recession hit in 2008, our sister company, TempWorks, remained in strong financial standing. Meanwhile, staffing agencies were struggling, and TempWorks wanted to help.
That’s when we decided to offer payroll funding for startup staffing companies and established staffing firms.
We were able to support our clients during times of economic hardship, helping them weather the storm and set themselves up for success when the market turned around.
What Happened Next:
Lessons learned as we addressed immediate needs
The funding division of TempWorks was established to address a specific need. We wanted to provide TempWorks clients with access cash flow and additional services to enable them to keep their doors open and maintain their businesses during tough times.
As we’ve grown, we’ve been able to expand our offerings and hone our processes to deliver even better service.

The first step was payroll funding. The next was expanding into back-office services to take the weight of payroll and tax processing—among other things—off our clients’ plates.
We’ve worked closely with our clients throughout the years to identify pain points that, if solved, would bring the greatest value. Some of those pain points included lack of ability to pay for full-time staff to handle payroll and taxes.
From this collaboration, we realized that by offering back-office services, we could take a large amount of time-consuming work off our clients’ shoulders. This would also help them keep costs lower than if they had to hire more full-time staff.
